
Friday, January 23, 2018 -- The Arizona Soccer Association announces the hiring of new Technical Director Carlos Juarez, who has more than 30 years working as a U.S. Soccer National Staff Instructor and served as Chief Scout for the U.S. Men's National Team.
"After an extensive nationwide search where we had many qualified candidates, we are thrilled to announce Carlos Juarez as our new Technical Director," said Arizona Soccer Association Executive Director, Leslie Johnson. "Carlos is a unique coach in American soccer, as he has a great background and extensive experience in coaching at every level in the American soccer pyramid. His knowledge will benefit every coach and player in Arizona."
Juarez, who was previously was Cal North's Technical Director, will oversee more than 45,000 players and will lead Arizona in the areas of coaching education in the recreational and competitive levels. He will also oversee the Olympic Development Program (ODP).
"I am looking forward to sharing my coaching experience and coaching education background with every youth player in Arizona," Juarez said. "I have seen the growth and the development in youth soccer unfold over the years in Arizona and now is the perfect time to elevate it to higher levels. Together with the coaching talent available in the state, the potential for growth is limitless. I am excited and looking forward to the future."
Juarez holds an United States Soccer Federation "A" License and after wrapping up his playing career at Cal State University Los Angeles, Juarez started climbing up the coaching ladder, which started at the youth game and then transitioned to college and the U.S. Youth National Teams. In addition, he was head coach of WUSA's San Diego Spirit and an assistant coach with Major League Soccer's Chivas USA.
With U.S. Soccer, Juarez has served as a National Staff Instructor and as a Chief Scout for the U.S. Men's National Team from 2011-16. He scouted opponents during the 2013 and 2016 CONCACAF Hexagonals, 2013 and 2015 Gold Cup, 2016 Copa America, and 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
