Klein graduated from Prescott High School in 2002 and attended the University of Arizona, where she was part of the school's first Pac-10 championship team in 2004. She also played locally for the W-League's Arizona Heatwave from 2003-05.

Prior to USC, Klein served as an assistant at Washington State from 2013-14 and spent five years at UNLV, including the final two as the program's head coach. At the time, she was the youngest head coach in NCAA Division I women's soccer.
Her coaching career started as a volunteer assistant at the University of Arizona during the 2006 season.
