
Monday, November 18th, 2019 -- A pair of Phoenix natives are the latest players from Arizona to win a championship final this year.
In last night's USL Championship Final, Tate Schmitt (Phoenix) and Damian German (Phoenix) helped lift the trophy after their side, Real Monarchs, defeated Louisville City FC 3-1.
Schmitt, who signed with Major League Soccer's Real Salt Lake prior to the 2019 season, has been on loan with the Real Monarchs for the majority of the season - Schmitt did appear in six MLS matches and 19 USL matches scoring three goals this season. Schmitt got the start and went the full 90 in the match and almost scored a goal for the Monarchs in the 65th minute. German, who signed with the Real Monarchs prior to the 2019 season, was an unused sub in the match. German did appear in 10 matches for the Real Monarchs during the season and scored three goals.
Schmitt attended Desert Vista High School and went on to play for the University of Louisville. German attended Maryvale High School and went on to play for Grand Canyon University for three seasons before finishing up his senior year at San Diego State University.
