Schmitt is as Arizona as they come. He played locally for CCV Stars, where he won three State Cup titles, grew up in the Ahwatukee area, and attended Desert Vista High School. He spent his junior years at the Real Salt Lake - Arizona Academy in Casa Grande where he helped the U-17/18 team finish as national runner-ups in 2014 and 2015. 

 

He attended the University of Louisville where he scored 26 goals and recorded 17 assists in 80 appearances. Tate is also the younger brother of Reid Schmitt who played one season to Phoenix FC.
