ASA & AZSoccerEvents Partner To Collect Toys For Cancelled Salvation Army Christmas Angel Tournament

cHRIST

PHOENIX (Thursday, December 3rd, 2020) -- The Phoenix City Council voted 7-2 on Wednesday to rescind all field permits for youth sports at city-owned sports complexes effective December 3, 2020. This decision has led to the cancelation of the annual Salvation Army Christmas Angel Tournament which collects toys for the Salvation Army Forgotten Angel program.

In lieu of this decision, the Arizona Soccer Association and AZ Soccer Events - host organization of the Salvation Army Christmas Angel Tournament - have partnered up to continue the mission of the tournament which has donated more than 20,000 toys in its 20-year history.

ASA and AZSoccerEvents will be setting up mobile donation centers around the Valley on Saturday, December 5, at locations where ASA matches will be played. The locations are:

Eagles Park from 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM: 828 E Broadway Rd, Mesa 85204

Fear Farm 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM: 2209 N 99th Ave, Phoenix 85037

Santos Soccer Complex 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM: 12347 S Sossaman Rd, Mesa 85212

If you cannot make it to these locations, toys can be dropped off at the ASA office (2320 W Peoria Ave C123 Phoenix 85029) Monday-Friday from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

"Christmas meant the world to my husband Tom and when we first envisioned this tournament many years ago the goal was to help those who are less fortunate during this time of year," said Chris McConkey, AZSoccerEvents Tournament Director. "A big part of this tournament is that every player and every coach has to bring a toy and while soccer is played the driving factor of this tournament has been to always help those in our community. The tournament has always captured the best of the holiday season and we are proud to continue the mission of this tournament this year with the help and support from the ASA."

The toys are donated to the Salvation Army Christmas Angel program which provides toys to thousands of children who didn't have their tags picked or children who had their tags picked and not returned.
