Monday, September 24, 2018 -- Arizona's Jessica McDonald scored goals on either side of the half to lead the North Carolina Courage to a 3-1 victory over the Portland Thorns in the National Women's Soccer League Championship match. She was also named NWSL Championship MVP.
McDonald scored both goals with her head, the first in the 40th minute and the second in the 64th minute. This is the second NWSL Championship McDonald has won previously winning in 2016 with the Western New York Flash.
The NWSL Championship caps off another great year for McDonald. She led the league in assists with eight and scored 10 goals - the third time in her career she has scored double-digit goals. McDonald is also the second in NWSL's all-time leading goalscorers.
McDonald played locally for Sereno and graduated from Cactus High School. She attended Phoenix College before transferring to and helping the North Carolina Tar Heels win the national championship in 2008.
