Wednesday, July 25, 2018 -- Day 2 was big for the two Arizona teams at the 2018 US Youth Soccer National Championships. Both Tuzos 02 Boys and Phoenix Rising FC Youth Soccer 00 Girls earned points and both will have a chance to advance to the quarterfinals.
Below are recaps from today's matches.
Tuzos 02 Boys - 16U
After earning a point in a 2-2 draw in their first match (watch highlights here), Tuzos 02 Boys played Club Ohio Green (OH) to a scoreless draw on Wednesday morning.
With the point in hand, Tuzos 02 Boys are currently second in their group (two teams per group advance). For the final group stage match, they'll face group leaders, Solar 02 Strikers (TX), who have won both previous matches.
Tuzos will advance with a win. A draw plus some help can also get them through the quarterfinals. Wednesday's match against Solar will be played at 7 a.m. Arizona time.
Phoenix Rising FC Youth Soccer - 18U
Phoenix Rising FC Youth Soccer 00 Girls bounced back from yesterday's loss with a 5-0 win over CDA Slammers (CA) (watch full match here).
Emily Chaio, scored her second in as many matches in the 7th minute when she pounced on a loose ball in the box and finished the chance.
It then became the Lindsey Hubbard show as she recorded a second-half hat-trick. She scored the first in the 58th minute, assisted by Chaio, and she added her second in the 73rd minute when she collected a Sarah Wintergalen pass in the box and cleverly beat the final defender with a touch to her left foot. The CDA Slammer goalkeeper ran off her line and Hubbard slammed it into the back of the net.
Hubbard returned the favor to Wintergalen just two minutes later when both players connected down the left wing. As Wintergalen charged into the box unmarked, Hubbard played a square ball to her and she calmly finished for the fourth goal in the match.
Hubbard recorded her hat-trick in the 80th minute she finished a Tate Zall cross.
Up next for Phoenix Rising FC Youth Soccer is Sunrise Sting (FL). A win or draw and Phoenix Rising FC Youth Soccer will advance to the quarterfinals. Tomorrow's match will be played at 5 a.m. Arizona time.
