PHOENIX (Thursday, May 2, 2019 -- For the second straight FIFA Women's World Cup, two former Arizona Soccer Association players have been named to the U.S. Women's National Team (USWNT) roster.
Heading to the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, which will be held in France, is midfielder Julie Ertz (Mesa) and forward Jessica McDonald (Phoenix). Ertz was a member of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup when the USWNT won their third title along with Sydney Leroux (Scottsdale). This is the first World Cup for McDonald.
The World Cup kicks off June 11 for the USWNT when they take on Thailand. Next, the USWNT faces Chile on June 16 and they close out Group F against Sweden on June 20. The knockout rounds start June 22 with the championship match on June 7 in Lyon.
Ertz has appeared in 79 matches and has scored 18 goals in her career for the USWNT while McDonald has appeared in 7 matches and has scored two goals. Ertz played for the Arizona Soccer Association Olympic Development Program (ODP) and McDonald played two years for Phoenix College before transferring to North Carolina.
