Monday, January 8th, 2018 -- The Arizona 03 Boys have been crowned ODP West Champions in thrilling fashion, defeating Utah 03 Boys 0-0 (3-2) in a penalty kick shootout on Monday morning. Goalkeeper Landon Carter provided the heroics making three saves and David Cordes converted the game-winning penalty.
This is the second ODP West Championship title in three years for the 2003 Boys. The first title was in 2016 when they defeated Cal North 4-1. Current 03 Boys players, Easton Elizinga and Jalen Grant , members of the title winning squad in 2016.
The 03 Boys went 2-0-1 in group play scoring nine goals and conceding one. They then defeated Washington 03 Boys 2-0 in the semifinals. Ethan Pham's three goals led the team.
Arizona had another team in a title match, the 02 Boys who suffered a 0-0 (3-1) penalty kick shootout loss to Cal South.
The 02 Boys went 2-0-1 in group play scoring 14 goals and conceding one. They defeated their counterparts, AZ 02 WC Boys, 3-0 in the semifinals. Ruben Osorio's seven goals led the team and all players from Arizona.
