
Saturday, December 22, 2018 -- On Friday, Phoenix Rising FC announced that they and eight MLS clubs would participate in the 2019 Mobile Mini Sun Cup in Tucson and Phoenix. The preseason tournament will run from February 6 to February 23. It will include two matches in Phoenix at Phoenix Rsiing Soccer Complex. Schedule and tickets to be announced at a later date.
The eight MLS clubs include Sporting Kansas City, 2018 Western Conference Champions, New York Red Bulls, Eastern Conference Champions, and playoff teams Seattle Sounders, Real Salt Lake, Portland Timbers, and FC Dallas. Houston Dynamo and Minnesota United round out the participating teams.
Depending on how the MLS offseason shakes out over the next few weeks, four Arizona players are slated to participate. They include Real Salt Lake's Justen Glad (Tucson), Brooks Lennon (Paradise Valley), Donny Toia (Tucson), and New York Red Bulls Luis Robles (Fort Huachuca).
The upcoming 2019 Mobile Mini Sun Cup got its start in 2011 when the FC Tucson group invited MLS's New York Red Bulls and Sporting Kansas City along with the Arizona Sahuaros.
