
Thursday, August 30th, 2018 -- The Phoenix Rising FC Arizona Advanced Leagues play are in full swing after last night's opening matches. As the Arizona Soccer Association did last year, we'll be covering teams throughout the season for our "Phoenix Rising FC Game of the Week". Last night, we watched Phoenix Brazas 04B defeat RSL-Arizona South 04B 2-1. Following that match, we watched MSC United 03G defeat CCV Stars 03G 1-0.

After a first half that saw both teams with limited chances, the match saw a lot of action in the second half with the first goal scored in the 48th minute. Phoenix Brazas fired a shot that was blocked by the RSL-AZ South goalkeeper. The ball bounced out to the left wing to an unmarked Neil Bhagat. He took a touch and fired a low screamer into the net. Brazas then doubled their lead in the 55th minute when Alan Garza converted on a corner kick. RSL-AZ South fought back and cut the lead in half in the 60th minute when a player trapped the ball in the box and fired a side volley past the outstretched arms of the Brazas goalkeeper. Brazas played strong down the final stretch of the match to secure the 2-1 victory.

In a match that could had gone either way, MSC United held on for a well-deserved 1-0 victory. At the beginning of the match it was all CCV Stars who were able to fire off a couple shots. The most dangerous chance happening in the 17th minute when a shot hit the crossbar and was then cleared before any damage could be done. After weathering the opening attack, MSC United then went on the offensive and Xitlaly Padilla stormed down the left wing and fired a low screamer into the back of the net in the 20th minute for the lone goal in the match. CCV Stars came close to equalizing in the 38th minute when their captain weaved through the entire MSC United defense. She unfortunately wasn't able to control the ball in the box and fired a shot well over the crossbar. Chances were limited in the second and MSC United opened up the 2018-19 season with a 1-0 victory.
