PHOENIX (Monday, July 19th, 2021) -- It was known that State Farm Stadium would play host to a pair of Gold Cup quarterfinals matches on July 24, but what was not known was who the teams would be due to the qualification process in the group stage.
With group stage matches coming to a close, both El Salvador and Mexico will be playing in the Valley of the Sun.
El Salvador will be playing in the early match against the winner of Group D and Mexico will be playing in the later match against the runner-up from Group D. Three teams in Group D are vying for the two spots as Honduras (already advanced), Qatar, and Panama all play Tuesday night.
Back in 2019, State Farm Stadium hosted a semifinals match that saw Mexico defeat Haiti 1-0 in extra time. In 2015, the stadium hosted group stage matches and in 2017 the stadium hosted the quarterfinals.
