Wednesday, April 11th, 2018 -- While we always proud of the accomplishments of student-athletes on the pitch, we're equally as proud of their accomplishments off the pitch.
Milana Eyrich plays for Tucson Soccer Academy and when she isn't scoring goals she has been collecting dog and cat food, and donations instead of presents on her birthday since she was eight-years old. She has been doing this for five years now and volunteers at local animal shelters.
As Milana prepares to compete in the President's Cup this weekend (her TSA 01 Girls Red team were Arizona State League D1 champions), ASA had a chance to catch up with her about all the great she is doing in the community.
ASA: What inspired you to receive donations instead of presents of your birthday?
Milana: I love animals and seeing all the animals in need inspired me to donate. Making the animals lives better is better to me than getting birthday presents.
ASA: Have any goals in mind with your donations?
Milana: My goal is to set up an animal donation drive at my school so I could help a lot more animals in need.
ASA: Are you collecting donations on days other than your birthday?
Milana: Yes, and I am putting together a school donation drive.
ASA: How many items have you collected?
Milana: It has been roughly 200 items including food, toys, beds, bowls, blankets, and more.
ASA: We're sure the organizations you're helping appreciate it. Who have you been helping out?
Milana: I've donated to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona for two years, the Hermitage Cat Shelter for one year, and the Green Valley Animal League for the past two years.
If you'd like to help Milana, you are more than welcome to reach out to her at jmeyrich@gmail.com
Keep up the great work Milana and good luck in the President's Cup!
